Talent Center’s search functionality will be unavailable the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 27, from 10 p.m. until midnight while the system receives an upgrade mandated by the vendor (Oracle). The maintenance period was determined by Oracle.

The HCM Solutions Team has completed checks to ensure that the system is ready for the update. In the unlikely event of an issue, the HCM Solutions Team will closely collaborate with the vendor (Oracle) to determine the cause and resolve the issue. If the outage period is extended, an update will be provided at https://status.pitt.edu.

Monitoring - Pitt Digital has taken action to resolve an issue that earlier today affected the ability of some students to submit print jobs using the Pitt Print client on their computer. The issue affected only students who were using a Wi-Fi network other than PittNet, such as MyResNet Wi-Fi, Eduroam, or Pitt Guest Wi-Fi.

Pitt Digital is working to identify the root cause of the issue and take steps to address it. We continue to monitor the service closely and will post any additional updates to status.pitt.edu.

Scheduled - The University Data Center will remain operational and there will be no service interruptions during electrical maintenance performed by Duquesne Light on Friday, Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This maintenance period, announced today by Facilities Management, is necessary to repair an electrical pole damaged during a storm. Although the Data Center was mentioned in the announcement, the Data Center has multiple redundant power systems designed to ensure it remains operational when commercial electrical service is interrupted.

Pitt Digital will be on site to confirm electrical power has been restored following the maintenance period.

Those who need to submit timecards for the week of August. 10-16 should plan to do so before or after the outage period. As a reminder, timecards must be submitted and approved by noon on Monday, Aug. 18.

The maintenance period was determined according to quarterly release schedule provided by the vendor (Oracle).

The HCM Solutions Team has completed checks to ensure that the system is ready for the update and will be actively engaged with Oracle throughout the maintenance period. In the unlikely event of an issue, the HCM Solutions Team will closely collaborate with Oracle to determine the cause and resolve the issue. Scheduled - PeopleSoft and PeopleSoft/HighPoint Campus Experience (CX) may be unavailable briefly during scheduled maintenance to the Student Information System https://services.pitt.edu/TDClient/33/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=345 taking place overnight Saturday, August 16, at 11 p.m. until Sunday, August 17, at 7 a.m. The maintenance will be performed by the vendor, Sierra-Cedar.

The update will be completed sometime within the maintenance window and will not entail a complete outage, as deployment will take place in rolling fashion. However, users that are connected to the system when the update occurs may encounter an error and have to log back in.

Be sure to complete all of your work and exit the system before 11 p.m. on August 16. Incomplete entries will be terminated without notice when the system goes offline.

The maintenance period has been scheduled by Pitt Digital in consultation with the Office of the University Registrar, Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, and Student Financial Services. Pitt Digital has completed checks to ensure that the systems are ready for the updates and will be actively engaged with the vendor throughout each maintenance period.

In the unlikely event that an issue or problem arises, the systems will be reverted to the original configuration and an update posted to http://status.pitt.edu. The systems will be returned to service earlier if the maintenance work is completed ahead of schedule.

Scheduled - Beginning on Monday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. and continuing through Thursday, Aug.14, at 5 p.m. experts from Dell and VMware will update virtual server hosting at the University Data Center under guidance from Pitt Digital. The upgrade process will occur continuously over four weekdays to maximize availability of enhanced engineering support from the vendors.

No service disruptions are anticipated, and checks have been completed to ensure that the system is ready for the upgrade. Pitt Digital will be monitoring services and actively engaged with Dell throughout the upgrade. Should any unexpected issues occur, rollback procedures are also in place to ensure continuation of all systems. In the unlikely event of a service disruption, updates will be provided at https://status.pitt.edu.

This routine maintenance is performed on a semi-annual basis and has been completed successfully multiple times. It is part of vendor-recommended best practices to ensure high levels of availability, secure work environments, and the continued reliability and stability of critical systems. This technology supports both departmental servers and enterprise services, including Accounts Self-Service, Andrew File System (AFS), Central Directory Service (CDS), Document Management (Perceptive Content / ImageNow), Enterprise Web Infrastructure (EWI), Faculty Information System (Elements), Pitt Print, and Tableau.
